African Paintings

lizardwallMany of my paintings and drawings have been influenced by my fourteen years in Africa and subsequent visits to other African countries, drawing inspiration from the colours, the spirit and the way of life.
My sketches (I never walk around without a sketchbook) often provide the inspiration for a painting. I try to express my personal reaction to a subject, which in my case means I often vary the technique or style.  I work in oil, acrylics, watercolour and do collages and drawings. The sizes of these vary greatly from miniatures 10 x 10cm  to 100 x 80cm
It is only in the last six years that I have concentrated fully on my paintings and sculptures. I exhibit at least four times a year in group exhibitions and had 15 solo exhibitions over the years in different countries. I am an active member of the Sutton Coldfield Society of Artists, the Midland’s Potters Association, the Birmingham Art Circle and Associate Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. see work from when I was an illustrator, graphic artist and art teacher see the ‘Active Art’ section.
